Deepest Sympathy Card

Hello and thanks for visiting today.  I created a sympathy card for my brother-in law.  He lost his brother recently and this weekend is the memorial.

I used tumbled glass distressed ink, applied it to my craft mat, added water and dipped the watercolor paper several times, drying between layers.

I took the Wild Flowers and Wings SMAK Kit and Imperfection is Beauty , Donna Downing stamps and stamped them on another watercolor paper several times so I could use the petals to layer on top of other petals.

I used a new brand of watercolor paints called CQR – they are very intense when dry.

I also took another butterfly stamps  from Unity.  Sorry, I can’t remember which kit it came from, never the less, I love that it has hearts on the wings.  and colored three to scatter them on the card.

I fussy cut all the elements and added some scattered twigs distress ink to the edges to make them pop and layered several petals to the flowers.

The leaves are also from the Wildflowers & Wings SMAK kit.

I also added a bit of distressed Stickles with a brush all around the flowers and butterflies.  I stamped the flower in scattered twigs on front of the envelope and the inside of the card.

The sentiment on the front  is from  May Hope Sustain You sentiment kit and for the inside I chose one of the sentiments from the sentiment kit Beautiful Life, Blessed Memories.

You Color My World Greeting Card

For this month’s post, I made a card from the Happy Easter Collection.  When I saw the brush and the paint drip I knew I wanted to make an art related card.

I took the egg on the front and transformed it into a paint palette by adding different size circles and joining them to the original egg using Make The Cut.  

I cut everything on my Cricut, including the watercolor paper so I could drop some watercolor and acrylic paint on the panel as well as the color wells.

On the inside of the card I followed the same theme using card stock with color drips and smears.

I stamped “You Color My World” with a Unity Stamp I just received in the mail yesterday.  Perfect timing, Unity!!

This file also comes with a matching envelope.  I used the same color of cards stock as the front panel and the designer paper on inside panels for the envelope.

 Well, my friends, sad to say this is my last post as a Design Team member.  I want to personally thank Beth Fiscus for having faith in me and choosing me to be a member of the team for the six month duration.  I enjoyed using SVG Attic files and modifying them into different projects.  I will miss the excitement  of the blog hops for sure, but especially the camaraderie with all the people associated with SVG Attic!

I turned down the request to continue as a member because my husband and I will be traveling in the summer and, of course, I’ll be away from my computer!

 I hope I will be able to contribute in the future if there are other opportunities to join the team again!

Keep on crafting, I know I will!!

Life Book 2015 Week 13

This week we had the wonderful Juliette Crane give us a video on how to create a whimsical owl.  I saw a picture of three owls someone posted and it inspired me to create the three owls on a trunk.

I made each one with a different face and stance.

I first laid a layer of lock of acrylic color then using a stabilo pencil drew in each of the owls and painted the different layers.  Lastly, I covered all the layers up and dotted the background with white dots to simulate stars.

I added molding paste to the stump and a stencil to simulate the tree.

I will have to make more of these creatures and more, I had so much fun!

Unity Stamp Be Inspired Challenge

I created this card for the Unity Stamps Be Inspired Challenge.  I was inspired by the new Tim Holtz’ crazy birds stamps.  Unity has this fabulous Swagger bird and I just modified it a bit.  I used watercolor paper and I colored the background and the birds using distressed inks in Tumbled Glass, Dried Marigold, Spiced Marmalade, Bundled Sage, Crushed Olive and Mowed Lawn.  I thought these colors matched the color challenge perfectly!

I added a bow tie to the top bird on the wire, and a small flower, I punched out of my leftover watercolor paper., to the girl bird on the ground, then I stamped “Sending happy thoughts” on another left over piece of paper and made it into a quote bubble.  The birds and the sentiment are popped up for added dimension.

I placed the card in front of a watercolor painting I just finished and it looks like a good background for the birds.

I guess I’m having a thing about birds lately because I also entered the Thinking of You bird card I made for SVG Attic’s Spring Has Sprung Blog Hop in the Friends With Flair last Friday.

Life Book 2015 Week Eleven

I was waiting for this lesson from Jane Davenport because I took a Whimsical Girls class through Interweave.  If you click on the link, it should take you to YouTube’s preview of her class – Fantastic!!

The lesson included collaging the watercolor paper with our favorite things  – Drawing on the Outer and Inner World.  When she used flowers, I knew exactly what I wanted to do.

I used one of my former piece of art I created a couple of years ago and I transformed her into Frida Kahlo.  Haha!  She doesn’t look like Frida, but I did her uni-brow and now she can pass for Frida.

Here she is:

  

Frida, for the most part, wore flowers in her hair and her braids up on her head, so I cut out a cluster of roses, and an iris and set her on top.  She had a high forehead, but when I placed the flowers without the hair on her forehead, it looked like a helmet.  I think she looks much better now.  She also wore beautiful shawls, so instead of having her hair flowing, I made the shawl flowing in the wind.  I used Dye-Na-Flo ink to color the shawl and love the way it made it look like silk. I added some flowers to the edges and gold threads throughout.  She liked dressing in traditional Mexican attire, so I just gave her a bouquet of flowers to compensate for not giving her a “Huipil”  (A peasant dress).  She was such a rebel, so I used one of my Unity Stamps “The Rebel in me will never die.”  How appropriate!

The print out of the girl I used had light violet eyebrows, so I just darkened them a little and added a more hair to the middle of the bridge of the nose and of course, a few wisps of hair on her upper lid.

She loved beautiful jewelry, so I gave her some gold earrings with emeralds. She also loved parrots and had a pet monkey, but opted not to add it.

I had a lot fun creating this project, and will make lots more withe the techniques I learned this time.

Spring Has Sprung Blog Hop

Here are the projects I created for this hop:

I’ve been experimenting with Dylussions Inks Sprays on watercolor paper so I used the watercolor paper to create the following cards.

The first card is from the Welcome Spring SVG Collection.  I cut out plain watercolor paper using my Cricut and then sprayed Heidi Swapp ink sprays on the base of the flower and the cut out flower shape, then I used the prepared watercolor paper to cut out the bird two times using my Cricut Expressions electronic cutter.  I then added molding paste plus a small amount of black distress ink and applied it through Martha Stewart’s Angle Wings Stencil.  This made the feathers on the bird appear more realistic, then on top of the feathers I added Heidi Swapp’s Tinsel ink spray with the sprayer.  The eye is a mat pearl.  The “Thinking of You – please know i care -” is a new sentiment from Unity Stamp Company.

For the second 6×6 card I used elements from the Give A Hoot SVG Collection.    I created the background by using an embossing pen to outline the branches and leaves on the designer card stock, then I added white embossing powder, heated it with the heat gun and when dry, I added green and yellow Gelatos, followed by spraying water and blending the colors together.  I used the prepared watercolor paper and cut out the owl and the heart tree.  The branch is cut out of a DCWV card stock.  I also colored the leaves with Gelatos.

Then I stamped “miss you” with a $1 stamp I bought at Michael’s.

Here you can see the watercolor paper with the Dylussions in spray, I love the rich colors they produce.

It’s Always Tea Time

I got my inspiration for today’s post from Alice.  Alice in Wonderland that is.  I bought a gigantic coloring book with Alice In Wonderland illustrations and then I remember there was a file in the SVG Attic shop with all the elements I needed to make a 12×12 mixed media canvas.

The file I used, Mad Hatter Tea Party currently being remade to be compatible with all cutting machines and you can check the store at a later time for it if you don’t already have it.

I started out by applying Mod Podge and pretty napkins to the bottom layer.  Then I found more Alice in Wonderland images on Google and printed those because I wasn’t about to cut up my fabulous coloring book.

After the first layer was dry, I added a couple of vintage doilies, and the Alice and the Mad Hatter to the middle right corner.  On top of that layer, I added Dye-Na-Flo fabric paints which are translucent, but permanent after drying them with the heat gun or ironing on fabric with a hot iron.

I downloaded the Alice in Wonderland free font and welded the title “It’s Always Tea Time!”  as well as the “Drink Me tag.”

I also used a stencil and black distress paint for the clock and.  The Mad Hatter’s hat has the tag with 10/6 on it.  If you look closely at the bottom of the canvas you can also see the Queen of Hearts, The White Rabbit, and The Knave of Hearts.  I also added stamps, rub-ons and stencils

All the elements were cut with my Cricut using DCWV paper.

This is going in my kitchen because we love tea and it will remind us that we can drink it any time we want.

Life Book 2015 Week 10

This has been one of my favorite projects yet!  Playing with ink sprays and getting messy is my kind of play time!

Layers of Your Heart With Tamara Laporte was this weeks lesson

This month’s theme is Celebration and gratitude

We created a concertina page with several hearts where we wrote what we are grateful for.  Here is mine:

I love how we created this background using different colors of spray inks on the pocket concertina as well as each heart.

This is the front heart.  I tried a little faux calligraphy for the title “Layers of My Heart”

The rest of the hearts are decorated in different techniques.  I wrote on each one what I am grateful for beginning with my Spirituality, Family, Nature, Technology and Friends.

I will be making more of these grateful hearts for sure!!

Life Book 2015 Week Nine

Lynn Whipple posted a very fun project with watercolors this week for us on Life Book 2015.  Lynn is a wonderful artist and I hope you go visit her blog.  She has awesome acrylic paintings as well as mixed media.

Favorite Favorites

I’m just letting go when it comes to creating now a days and this is what I came up with.  I used watercolor washes as the base for this Native American jar and I hated to cover up the frame, but I did just to follow the class.  Since I used salt on the wet watercolor, it left a beautiful texture.

Never the less, here is my Jar of Favorite Favorites

We were instructed to write in different colors of ink, stamps, or other media of our favorite things .

I went a little wild using my pinkies on this one, but I liked the overall effect.
