By The Sea Project

I promised myself that if I bought an SVG Cuts file, I would make the whole set.  This is the latest one  – By The Sea

I found the perfect sign and the anchor at my Big Lots.   I used DCWV Tradewinds paper.

For the fish card, I used other paper I had in my stash.

Now I have to find the perfect sentiments to add to the cards.  I’m waiting for some stamps with a nautical them from Unity.  Hopefully they’ll get here today.

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

I had a day off yesterday – oh, yeah, everyone had a day off.  We didn’t have any plans to go or do anything, so I spent the day in my studio while my hubby worked on restoring his 1980 Chevy Truck.

I bought a Dina Wakely video at Craft, Paper, Scissors showing her process of creating a journal page, so I jumped in using two 12×12 canvases – hence the title of this post.

Mary Englebreit Mixed Media
Mary Englebreit Mixed Media

I bought this Mary Englebreit paper piecing file and had to try and make a mixed media canvas with her.  I found some of her fabric in my stash and cut out some of the images, added the digital papers, used acrylic paints in the primary colors, stamps, stencils and gesso to add texture.  I’m very pleased with this piece and plan on giving it to a good friend of mine who likes anything Mary Englebreit.  This is The Good”

In Dina Wakely’s video, she shows the process of creating a journaling page using acrylic paints, ink sprays, and stencils.  Instead of a journal I used two 12×12 canvases – like she says, “if you can create one page, why not two?”  I followed along and did all the different techniques.  At the end, we’re to look at the “mess” and make something out of it.  She saw a window and a branch with flowers, I didn’t.  So I went ahead and drew the window on one canvas and branches on the other.

Then she says “OK, now we are going to cover everything up!”  So I did, at the same time I was wondering how the finished product would look like.

I covered up the one with the window in white paint:

I kind of like the look of this, but I know there is still something else it needs, so I’ll just let it sit and I’ll get back to it later – “The Bad”

The “Piece de Resistance” –  This is what the first piece ended up looking.  I used a blue and black paint to come up with a dark color and covered up all the work I previously did.  Yes, my friends, this is “The Ugly”

There are so many things I want to change on this piece, but I’m not throwing it away.  I’m thinking of covering everything up and starting over – or not.  I still don’t know what this will end up being, but I will keep it close at hand and see what it turns out to be.

On another note, I’m working on this painting in my acrylic class – It is still not finished – the Aspens need a little work and will show you the finished work at another time.

Inking Up My New Stamps

I spent the day yesterday inking my new stamps and was able to make two cards.

Joe - Fashionista Girl
Joe – Fashionista Girl

I used Unity Stamps Fashionista Girl Joe.  I stamped the image twice, cut out the girl, colored it with watercolor markers, color spray, stencils, and neon acrylic paints. I masked off the word hottie to stamp on top.

Namasté

Another Fashionista Girl – Serenity.  I used some DCWV paper I had in my stash that matched the theme perfectly.  I painted a wooden flower to make it look like a Yoga symble.  I stamped the girl three times to paper piece it with different colors and textures.  The mat is a gauze paper, and the base is burlap paper.  I made some “faux enamel dots” to match the paper.  I learned this technique from Lindsay at The Frugal Crafter blog.

SVG Cuts Spring Contest Project

Here it is folks, my project for the Spring Contest.  I called it the Art Deco Spring Watering Can.  I made seven pages front and back using nothing but SVG Cuts kits.  Some where cards, but I made them so that pictures can be added to them.  I also resized the files so they could fit on the pages of the album.  I downloaded an Art Deco font and made my own file lfor the Hello Spring.

New Projects Using the Fun and Games File from SVG Cuts

While waiting to get the pictures of my project for the Spring Challenge, I made the Tennis Card using papers from my stash, white vellum, and washi tape for the handles.  The sentiment is from Unity Stamps called “Where You Should Be”

My husband used to be an avid golfer, but he has a bum knee now and can’t go play.  I made him this cute golf bag and put his favorite snack inside, but you could put some golf balls inside the box.  I used an old DCWV stack all about Vintage.

I need to find out what are the school colors at my grandson’s high school so I can make him the baseball hat.  Will post later.

More Cards for Family

I’ve been working on my Spring Challenge over at SVG Cuts and hadn’t had a chance to post the cards I made for my kids.

I used the Reason Someone Smiles March kit stamps.  The blossom was stamped with distressed markers and spritzed with water on watercolor paper.  The background paper was embossed with clear embossing powder, inked with distress inks and ironed off the embossing. I also used DCWV corrugated cardstock in purple.

I made this card some time ago in an on-line card class, but hadn’t shared it.  I used watercolor pencils, and masked some of the buildings to add the day and night skies. Thanks for looking!
